[BarleySinger]: My guess is that this person does not want to believe in things that put the USA and preseident Bush in a bad light. Everything I said came from the US press. It just tends to get buried on the last page of the newspaper (and get ignored totally on TV). It might help to understand that the media in the US is mostly owned (TV and radio) by companies that are involved in weapons research (like NBC) or who's owners are very conservative in their views (FOX). After we moved out the the country we were totally amazed at the vast difference in the quality of the news. We were also amazed at how much more international news there was on standard TV broadcasts.

[BarleySinger]: I was also amazed at how much less violence centered things are in other parts of the world. Sure there are people who like warfare just about everywhere, but until I was gone for a few years it never dawned on me the degree to which the US is a seriously warlike nation. They have been involved in far more wars around the world that even the USSR was at its height. Ever since the Spanish Americal War the US has reserved the right to take territory from other nations if it can make the a buck (thats how the Phillipines came under US control). Over time they have become the biggest bully on the block, and now nobody can oppose them.

[BarleySinger]: One thing to remember folks, is that happy well balanced people don't want to make war. That said, it makes you wonder what kind of emotional and psychological problems run so strongly in the Bush family. I've long thought that the single largest contribution to global stife and warfare is *really crappy parents*. Think about it. What kind of a parent would Grandpa Bush (the Nazi) or George Herbet Walker (the CIA butcher) have been? I seem to recall something about Bush senior having been the US ambasadore to the "Pol Pot" regiem in Cambodia...and Pol Pot killed millions. THere seems to be a geneocide theme here not that I think of it.

[Rondel]: Psst -- I'm female. Not a "he". But I hope the link in my comment was useful. I don't like it when people say things about others behind their backs. I think people deserve to know what's being said about them. Agree or disagree, that's everyone's right (and I'm glad you exercise it, [Dil*]), but don't expect to talk about people behind their backs and not have it get back to them. <sigh> Including, of course, president-appointee Bush Jr.

[Rondel]: Say, I wonder if any of what's been said here is legally considered treason, yet? Who needs that pesky Bill of Rights, anyway? If concentration camps were good enough for the Nazis, they ought to be good enough for Americans, as long as they're only there to implement "The Final Solution" to the problem of Terrorism... ...right? Or, what do *you* call keeping people in chain-link pens in the outdoors for years at a time? It's things like that that tempt me to hate Bush, but I just don't think he's worth it. I wouldn't spit on the man if he were dying of thirst. It's obvious that he's just the "front man", anyway...

[Rondel]: They may not talk about it, but there was an incredible exhibition about it at the Smithsonian Institute when I was there in 1987 (or thereabouts).
